THE ZONE

Vertical garden in Rosebank Johannesburg installed in 2015. With the rich South African flora it was an interesting opportunity to work with almost exclusively indigenous plants.

At an elevation of 1700 meters, nights in Johannesburg can be cold, but frosts are not that frequent. It's categorized as a subtropical highland climate, as opposed to the botanically more diverse Cape Town area with its' mediterranean climate.

We used several kinds of Agapanthus, these are strong plants that resists dry spells and flowers profusely. The wall also has varieties of Chlorophytum comosumAsparagus sprengeri and Plecanthrus, all common pot plants that we frequently use also for interior walls. For flowers there are Cyrtanthus, Pelargonium, Tulbaghia, ice plants (Aizoaceae), Clivia and more.
